According to Dr Shel, founder, Dr. Shel Wellness & Aesthetic Centre, Texas, USA, hormonal imbalance is something that everyone will face at some point in their lives. For some it will happen at a time that they expect it to, such as menopause or much later in life. However, more and more people are beginning to experience the symptoms of hormonal imbalance at younger ages.

Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers that go around your bloodstream telling tissues and organs what to do. Produced in the endocrine glands, they help to control many of your body’s major processes, including metabolism and reproduction.

Hormonal imbalance simply means that, you have too much or too little of a certain hormone. We can explain this better with salt; too much of salt or not enough of it in a dish will definitely affect the final product. Just as the right quantity of salt will bring out the best taste of a dish, hormonal balance is vital to a healthy, cancer-free mind and body.

Hormone imbalance could occur as a result of natural factors such as in puberty, menopause and perimenopause. Hormone imbalance may also be caused by toxins in the body. There are also some other causes of hormonal imbalance that are related to reproductive hormones but these types are common to women only.

These include:
ü Menopause
ü Pregnancy
ü Breastfeeding
ü Premature menopause
ü Hormone drugs.
